Favela-Tourismus - zwischen Alltagsleben und Ausflugsort

Rio de Janeiro 2015: 6.3 million people live in the metropolis. 1.4 million of these live in around one thousand favelas. Megasportevents like the 2016 Olympic Games are changing the city’s face. Rio’s authorities declared war on drugs, violence and criminality. Profound changes can be observed through the phenomenon of favela-tourism: guided tours show poverty alongside modernization, gentrification and selfie-tourism.These are just some aspects that I encountered during my photo-project.
