Pacificação is the concept of the pacification of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro.
This measure was called into life in 2009 in order to prepare the city for the upcoming major events, the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
This means that many favelas are “cleansed” by special military and police units of violence, arms and drug dealing. In his work, Felix Kleymann has documented both the participating combat units and the situation in the favelas.
