In March 2011, the north-east of Japan (Tôhoku region) was devastated by the threefold disaster of earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident. Place names like Fukushima are on everyone's lips, but only little is known outside Japan about the region's history and culture. The exhibition by the Japan Foundation shows outstanding photographs which were created by 1940 and 2011 and deliver an impressive testimony to the landscape, historical artefacts, local traditions and people's lives.
The exhibition is complemented by a digital presentation of the series "Tôhoku" by renowned German photographer Hans-Christian Schink
