During the momentous 1910s and 20s the photographer Karl Schenker (1886 -1954) was one of the best-known society portraitists. As photographer, draughtsman, painter and designer of display window mannequins, Schenker created women's portraits and fashion shots. With the aid of photo retouching methods, he transformed his models into chic figures. Rediscovering him means encountering a skilled craftsman and exploring an early chapter of photographic mise-en-scene.
